The best safeguard against sexual sins in marriage is an enduring relationship with God. If God is recognized as the essential element for good human relationships -- also true within the context of marriage -- then one can be assured of His protection in matters we are not otherwise capable of handling. Never presume on God's love, great though it is, or expect His mercy when it is not warranted by an existing positive relationship with Him.
Perhaps the best Biblical example of having a positive relationship with God concerning sexual activity is found in Tobit 8:4-9:
When the girl's parents left the bedroom and closed the door behind them, Tobiah arose from bed and said to his wife, "My love, get up. Let us pray and beg our Lord to have mercy on us and to grant us deliverance."
She got up, and they started to pray and beg that deliverance might be theirs. He began with these words:
"Blessed are you, O God of our fathers;
praised be your name forever and ever.
Let the heavens and all your creation
praise you forever.
You made Adam and you gave him his wife Eve
to be his help and support;
and from these two the human race descended.
You said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone;
let us make him a partner like himself.'
Now, Lord, you know that I take this wife of mine
not because of lust,
but for a noble purpose.
Call down your mercy on me and on her,
and allow us to live together to a happy old age."
They said together, "Amen, amen," and went to bed for the night.

"They were singing (what seemed to be) a new hymn before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn this hymn except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed from the earth.
These are they who were not defiled with women; they are virgins and these are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been ransomed as the firstfruits of the human race for God and the Lamb. On their lips no deceit has been found; they are unblemished." [Rev. 14:3-5]
Culture, politics, science, and societies change.
Basic human nature has never changed.
